2018 | Digital Radiography

With the support from our partners Mikasa, Varex Imaging, and Veterinary X-Rays, we are proud to supply a fully equipped radiology suite within the WVS Thailand facility. WVS is now able to use this important equipment to provide the best care possible for animals who are in desperate need.

2022 | Ultrasound System

An ultrasound machine is an invaluable piece of diagnostic equipment in veterinary medicine and the clinic has been thrilled at its arrival. It has already been used extensively in clinical situations.

Ultrasound scanning provides superb detail of soft tissues and allows for the examination of parts of the body that are not easily seen on X-rays, i.e. the internal structure of the heart, the contents of the abdomen, and the muscles in the limbs. It is a non-invasive diagnostic method, meaning that it allows for the visualisation of internal structures without needing to conduct any deeper exploration.

Antech Diagnostics additionally provided a 2 hour virtual training session to all of the staff at the clinic. This allowed the clinical team to familiarise themselves with this particular model and utilise every aspect of the diagnostic tools that it provides.

The ultrasound machine will be used for clinical diagnostics in complicated emergency cases as well as for the training of students and volunteers at the programme.

2022 | Digital Radiography

It was a pleasure and great honor to work together with our partners and WVS to make this much needed donation possible.

National Marine Mammal Foundation

Equipment Loan

2022 | Digital Radiography

National Marine Mammal Foundation (“NMMF”) was looking for a portable DR system and generator for ageing bottlenose dolphins via pectoral fin radiography. Scope of NMMF’s project: The marine mammal community has been aging dolphins via tooth extraction/tissue sampling. This new study would allow them to use x-rays of the dolphins flippers to age them instead. “Radiograph alternative would replace the invasive tooth extraction aging methodology providing a fast readily available alternative. Diagnostically working with images instead of tissues allows simple handling procedures, international sharing of information and widespread use of the technique to improve knowledge of cetacean ages globally.” The foundation was able to do this study in captive dolphins and now wanted to able their study out to the wild population.https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article/file?type=printable&id=10.1371/journal.pone.0222722

2021 | Ultrasound Donation

Fady is a 6 year old aye aye. She will be paired shortly with a male for breeding so we have been working on training for voluntary ultrasounds so we can get a pregnancy check when the time comes. Sound Imaging with the help of GE was able to donate a V-Scan, portable and wireless handheld ultrasound. We are definitely able to get good images of the uterus and she was very cooperative. The stick is to give her something to hold onto during the process. It is a training aid to help keep her focused on the position and also keep her hands occupied so she doesn’t reach up for the probe during the ultrasound.

2022 | doctorVet Donation

“Fady and Binx are doing great! Binx is about 6 months old now and getting very feisty and spunky with the staff. We took a break from Fady’s training while she has been raising Binx the last few months. Below is one of the more recent pictures of Binx we have taken by one of our volunteer photographers David Haring. He’s growing up so fast!”

We love seeing our animal customers feelings better!

Cheetah Conservation Fund

Donations:

2021 | Ultrasound

We were able to repurpose and donate an ultrasound system to the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia, Africa last year. Even with all the travel restrictions and delays due to Covid19, the system shipped out on a container cargo ship. After a very long transit across the oceans and desert the system made its way to the organization. We are so excited to report that the system is already being put to very good use. The Cheetah Conservation Fund’s mission is to be the internationally recognized center of excellence in the conservation of cheetahs and their ecosystems. The team there will be using our system in their new cheetah rescue center that receives cheetah cubs confiscated from the illegal wildlife trade for health checks and welfare.

“Here you can see an adolescent female who came into the Centre over the weekend, along with her brother and her mother. With our new ultrasound provided by Sound Imaging we were able to ultrasound all three of them during their veterinary examination and work up. We were surprised during the exams of the mother and daughter, both of them are pregnant!! You can see our vet team, Dr. Freddie, Vistoria, and Dr. Natasha on the left side of the image and Dr. Ana on the right side during the examination of the adolescent female. The ultrasound allowed the team to visualize cubs in the adolescent female cheetah. All three cats are fit and will be released back to the region where they were captured after we are able to collar them.”

UPDATE:

“One of the aspects I like the most about the machine is that you can save the exams from each patient, so we can always go back to that exam and evaluate it again or compare it to new scans. The company also gave CCF’s vets special training on a video call with their representative. We really appreciated it because it allowed us to use more functions of the machine so we can provide better care to our animals. Thank you SoundVet.

Conservation Centers for Species Survival (C2S2)

Donations:

2021 | Ultrasound

Sound has recently partnered with the Conservation Centers for Species Survival (C2S2) in their quest to establish a viable Southern Black Rhino population. They will be focusing on breeding, research, exhibition, and (if possible and appropriate) the ultimate reintroduction of these animals into the wild.Southern Black Rhinos have always been seen as a captivating species due to their incredible stature and magnificent horns. These striking features however have also been the reason for their demise. Many eastern cultures believe that rhino horns can be used to cure ailments in traditional medicine and rhinos have been hunted to near extinction as they are killed for the rhino horn trade. The population of black rhinos, by the later part of the 20th century decreased by 96%. By 1993, there were only about 2,300 surviving black rhinos in the wild- a drastic comparison to the 65,000 wild rhinos in Africa only 23 years before that. The population is slowly rebounding with now approx. 3,142 black rhinos living in the wild today. But the threat of poaching remains strong.

With only 40 of these Southern Black Rhino’s in captivity, reproductive rate is very low, making continued survival impossible. Through reproductive intervention and genetic banking, C2S2 intends to preserve the genetic potential of the existing population and produce calves through assisted reproductive technologies to augment natural breeding efforts. The ultrasound system Sound has donated C2S2 will be used in Africa similarly to the system we placed at the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Park to assist them with their Northern White Rhino project. The systems images will help veterinarians get detailed ovulation cycles of females in the population and their uterine and ovarian health for possible assisted reproduction to expedite population growth.

La Senda Verde Animal Refuge, (Boliva)

Donations:

2020 | Digital Radiography

In 2020 Sound Imaging along with the generous contributions from DT Research and Mikasa were able to donate a full DR system to La Senda Verde Animal Refuge in Boliva. The DR equipment has been a blessing for them as during the pandemic they received in approx. 120 more new animals from traffic, very sad. They continue to work hard using the DR equipment quite frequently which has been crucial for determining the right procedures. The refuge opened for visits last April, with controlled groups of 8 people and right now are accepting groups of 12. This is not enough to support all their needs, but very slowly they are trying to go back to normal. Everyone in their staff has been the vaccinated now. Here is an unfortunate case of an injured male Tunki (common name). These birds will self-destruct in captivity. Anyway with the broken wing would have been difficult.

2019 | Ultrasound

Big things are happening in CHS’ medical department: The staff now has an ultrasound machine, which was donated by Sound Imaging. This is a huge step for pets preparing for adoption at CHS, and for family pets who receive care at CHS’ reduced-fee Fox Memorial Clinic. It gives CHS veterinarians more capabilities when diagnosing a pet’s condition, will help with many different procedures, and means pets won’t need to travel to off-site veterinary offices when they need ultrasounds. Thank you so much to Sound Imaging!

Academy – 4H Vet Imaging Tour

Donation:

2018 | Academy Tour and Employee Time

On January 2nd, 2018, the Academy of Veterinary Imaging had the opportunity to take a group of 8 girls on a Vet Imaging Tour. As part of the 4H program these girls develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility and life skills through experimental learning programs and a positive youth development approach.

While on the tour, they got to learn how to take ultrasound images on the Scan IQ. They enjoyed their experience and were able to start developing their imaging skillset. There should be more programs like 4H that help cultivate and develop the veterinarians of tomorrow!

Helping Restore the Northern White Rhino Sub Species

2021 | Ultrasound

2 Rhinos now pregnant – click hereOnly three Northern White Rhinos remain in the world, and they are located at the Ol Pejeta conservancy in Kenya, Africa. Unable to reproduce normally, the San Diego zoo personnel are valiantly working to save the species using the In Vitro Fertilization technique. This amazing project also includes an advanced genetics program in embryo development that is part of the Frozen Zoo at the Safari Park. The Zoo acquired a select group of Southern White rhinos (recently brought to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, CA) to use as surrogates for the Northern White Rhino Frozen Zoo. Always the good neighbor, and longtime supporter of the world famous zoo, SOUND® donated ultrasound equipment to assist with this bold reproductive program. The ultrasound equipment is used for follicular monitoring and early stage fetal development when successful breeding occurs. SOUND® not only donated the ultrasound system but also provided the training resources to help zoo personnel in their noble efforts to save this endangered species from extinction.

We follow the zoo’s progress daily in hopes of positive results. You can follow the progress along with us at: http://institute.sandiegozoo.org/species/white-rhino

The Equitarian Project

Donation:

2017 | Employee Time/Medical Care

The Equitarian Project is put on by the Texas Equine Veterinary Association. This project includes sending out volunteers to countries like Guatemala and Nicaragua. The trips are scheduled biannually bringing veterinarians to provide medical care to the horses there. They go once in February and again in the fall. In these countries the medical care for the horses is not easily accessible and the horses are used daily for work.

Each year, Scott Giebler Director, Equine Channels, is a team leader for one of the groups going to Guatemala. Along with SOUND customers, one being Dr. Jessica Huntington of Stephenville Quine and Sports Medicine, he was joined by fellow SOUND employee, Lisa Riseman of Fort Collins, CO. They stay busy by seeing 30-100 horses a day and provide the horses with dentistry, vaccinations, nutritional counseling, parasite treatment, and exposure to local farriers. MWI and Full Bucket provide substantial amounts of the required vaccines, anthelmentics, equipment and nutritional support. Since joining the Teva Equitarian Project several years ago, Giebler has started to see some horses come back again and again getting better each time. The owner’s of these horses are learning the proper care for their horses from this group of volunteers.

Since they go biannually, they are always looking for volunteers. If you would like to go on your own time, please contact Scott Giebler for more information.

Purrfect Pals

Donation:

2016 | Digital Radiography

No kill cat clinic supported by charitable donations. Julie at Purrfect Pals wrote a letter saying:

“Hi, my name is Julieana and I volunteer at Purrfect Pals which is a nonprofit no kill cat shelter since 1988 in Arlington WA. We have a clinic on site with a Veterinarian and vet techs working daily to provide medical care for hundreds if not thousands of cats and kittens every year. However we still need to take the cats offsite to another vet clinic to get imaging done then bring cats back for treatment. As the shelter runs entirely on donations we are looking for any donated digital imaging equipment whether used, refurbished or even a referral to another to be able to help provide faster treatment and minimize further trauma to these kitties. Thank you for your time and we appreciate any help you are able to provide.”

In response, SOUND donated a complete digital X-Ray system with free tech support to Purrfect Pals. This donation made it possible for cats in the Puget Sound area to get the help they need.
